Big win for the top of the table team with another Spears hat-trick

Table toppers Ladies' 1s took on Lymm 4s with one of the most stubborn defences in the league. The early exchanges were mostly in the Lymm half but there was always the threat of a swift counter attack to trouble the hosts. Triton had several attempts on goal but the Lymm keeper's agility in goal kept them at bay. Skipper Vicki Bennion, Lucy Williams and Lottie Wade dominated the game in midfield. The deadlock was broken on 15 mins when the returning top scorer Hannah Spears forced the ball home. The driving wind and unpredictable showers affected both teams, the former producing an early hat-trick from umpire Statham and a second from umpire Riley. Triton worked hard to create more chances, Emma 'roll-out' Wolfendale, Darcey Pawezowski and Charlie Rutledge causing all sorts of problems for Lymm on the flanks. On 25 minutes Triton won a penalty corner, the ball was moved quickly around the D before Wolfendale slammed home for 2-0. On the stroke of half time a good advantage was played as the ball fell to Spears to make it 3-0.

In the second half the Lymm resistance stiffened and it mounted more attacks on the Triton goal. Hannah Ford, Iris Mitchell, Tash Griffiths and Sarah Varley worked their collective orange socks off to keep the visitors at bay. On the occasions Lymm did breach the hosts' defence, the previously under employed goalie Emily Statham made some smart saves to preserve the clean sheet. For most of the half the teams cancelled each other out, sadly Becci Jones pulled up injured gallantly chasing a through ball, before an explosive final 12 minutes. First the effervescent Darcey fizzed an unstoppable shot under the keeper's dive, then from the restart she won the ball and played in Hatrick-Hannah Spears for yet another treble. Just two minutes later Wolfendale waltzed into the D to rifle home for 6-0. An impressive debut from Ruby Stewart was nearly capped with a goal as she went close, Ford sashayed up from the back to the D perimeter to create another chance before an excellent move saw Charlie deflect home in the final minute. Very well played Ladies and in those final moments you were reaching those high notes from before Christmas. Now on to the 'noisy neighbours' next week.
