Triton Mens 1s travelled to Chester on Saturday expecting a tough fixture against a side who defeated them 7-0 on their last visit to Chester a few years ago. From the off, the match was played predominantly in the Chester half, with Triton turning the ball over in their opponent's half on a number of occasions. They finally made Chester pay in the 15th minute as Tom Statham drove into the circle from the left hand side and unleashed a strike high into the goal. Minutes later, Statham was on hand to double the visitor's advantage as Mikey Calam's effort rebounded to him to slot into the open goal. Chester didn't really show much threat, but did force a few penalty corners which were well snuffed out by JP Dodd in goal and the Triton backline. In the second half, Triton looked assured in possession but didn't really create anything of note until a few minutes from the end when Chris Cooper found himself in space on the right hand side of the circle and slapped the ball across to Tom Chaddock to deflect home at the back post. A fifth clean sheet of the season in the opening eight matches leaves the 1s in joint second in the table with the bottom team Lancaster & Morecambe visiting Alsager Sports Hub next weekend.
